Welcome to Ms. Skores' Classroom
Bienvenidos a la Clase de la Sra. Skores
Welcome Friends!
My name is Karen Skores and I am very privileged to be your child's Kindergarten teacher this year! This will be my thirteenth year teaching at Dirksen Elementary. Kindergarten is a time of new beginnings, of making friends, and of learning lots of new things each and every day. Our days and weeks will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing.
About Myself:
I am a native Peruvian, born in Lima. After finishing High School, I decided to move to Chicago to pursue my career goals without realizing I would find myself in love with this amazing city, and the cultural
diversity of its people. I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Biology Major and Chemistry Minor. I also attended Northern Illinois University (NIU) and
graduated with a Master's Degree in Elementary education with Bilingual and ESL endorsements. I find it a privilege to be part of Dirksen’s multicultural community, where my days as a teacher are filled with many learning
experiences that will forever be cherished. Aside from teaching, I Iove spending time with my husband and three children in year-round sport activities, going to plays, concerts, and enjoy volunteering and collaborating with events within my community.
Kindergarten Room 103:
We will learn all about letters and sounds, and will be doing writing activities, too. We will also be learning about numbers, building on important math concepts including sorting, counting, graphing, classifying,
patterns, time and money, measurement, and addition and subtraction. The children are always proud of the work they create and can’t wait to share their new skills with loved ones. Families can help at home by reading to and with their child daily for 20 minutes, and encouraging them to write and draw. Young children learn as they play and their play is their work. I believe all children can learn and be academically and socially successful, for this I plan to tap into their background knowledge and help them develop the needed skills to be
successful and ready for 1st Grade. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, weekly newsletters, quarterly reports and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me
if you have any questions or concerns at any time. Please feel free to call me at (773-534-1090), send me a note or email me at [email protected]
I'm looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child!
